Creating meaningful memories that last a lifetime are especially important, not just for you but for your kids. It’s our shared experiences that bond us together as a family and make us long for more of that time together, even as adults. Long after most grandmothers have passed, kids will tell others about the delicious lemon pound cake or that awful surprise gift that kept winding up under the tree year after year. It’s these memories that make a life. 

• Find Joy in Simplicity – Remember that a memorable event does not have to be elaborate. It can be quite simple and emotional, and memorable without all the fireworks or fanfare. 

• Journal Your Thoughts -- When the event is over, record your thoughts about it in your journal. Encourage children to start journaling too. Some kids who can’t write yet can use a recorder to document their memories and thoughts about the event. This gives them the ability to revisit it when they’re older. Adults love to listen to what young kids say about their trip to Disneyland and reminisce about what the kids think after watching a Christmas lights display. 

• Share The Experience with Others – The other way to solidify a memory is to talk about it and tell others about the experience. You can do that by sharing your pictures after the event on social media, sharing images next time you see them, or writing a short story about it. It’s up to you.
