Focusing on One Keyword at a Time Takes the Guesswork out of SEO

The Power Of One Challenge

When you do keyword research or think about trying to rank for certain keywords, do you get overwhelmed and just give up and not focus on it? If so, you’re probably suffering from a misunderstanding about how keywords work today. Let’s go over how they really work and how you should really try to use keywords for SEO.

Each Keyword Should be the Focus Only One Time

This might be a shock to you. You may have tried to use more than one keyword per blog post, article, or page. Does reading that already lift some of your trepidation over figuring out keywords? That means when you find 100s of keywords by doing keyword research, you theoretically have a keyword for 100s of pages on your site. Remember: every sales page, every regular page, every blog post, every product page is a separate page on your site and should have a different focus keyword.

Use Software like Yoast SEO to Help You

Yoast SEO keeps track of your focus keywords for you and will warn you if you’ve already used that keyword on another page. Remember, if a page isn’t ranking, don’t create another page to improve that page. There is other SEO software that you can use, but this is a favorite and it makes it simple to understand and use.

The More Pages You Have, the Better

The truth is, at least as far as search engines are concerned, the more pages - especially landing pages or points of entry to your site - that you have, the higher you’ll rank in search results. By using one keyword focus per page, you give yourself that many more opportunities to show up for someone who is trying to find your information.

It’s Easier

The fact is, when you break it down into one focus keyword per page, it just makes creating content so much simpler. You don’t have to think of three or four keywords to rank for in any given page. Plus, you don’t need to fill the page with that exact keyword either, because you really don’t want the focus word to be more than 2 percent of the content.

No More Guessing

When you have only one focus keyword, you know what that page is ranking for, right? You don’t have to guess what keywords are working and what isn’t because you’re only using one focus keyword per page. If a page ranks well, it’s due to the focus keyword and the content on that page.

Stop overwhelm and procrastination by making things easy for yourself. Do one thing at a time and you will reap the rewards. It may seem too simple but why make everything hard when it really is easy?
