Six Exercises to Use as a Life Coach

Life Coaching

As a life coach, you have the opportunity to help your clients improve their lives in a variety of ways. You can help them identify and achieve their goals. Another way is by providing support and guidance as they navigate challenging situations.

Helping your clients find ways to manage stress effectively is one of the biggest jobs of a life coach. It’s one of the number one reasons folks seek out a life coach, even if they're not fully aware of this reason.

Stress negatively impacts every area of your life, including your physical health, mental well-being, and relationships. Thankfully, these exercises can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Here are six exercises that you may want to consider using with your clients:

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

This technique involves tensing and relaxing the muscles in your body, one at a time. You can learn to know when your muscles are tense and then consciously release them.

Breathe!

Breathing exercises that use specific breath patterns reduce stress and anxiety because it helps slow down your heart rate. When that happens, it relaxes your nervous system. You can teach your clients various techniques (and use them yourself). Some include alternate nostril breathing, breath counting, or belly breathing.

Visualization Techniques

Visualizing yourself in peaceful and relaxing settings can help calm the mind's chatter and promote a more relaxed state of being. For example, you may want to encourage your clients to close their eyes and imagine themselves in a beautiful landscape, on a beach, or in a meadow.

Meditation

Meditation is an effective way to focus the mind and achieve a sense of inner peace and calm. Lots of types of meditation exist, so you will need to experiment to find which one works best for your clients. Some popular options include mindfulness meditation, mantra meditation, or guided visualization.

Exercise

Exercise is always effective at burning off extra energy and tension, promoting feelings of relaxation. It doesn't have to be something strenuous; even gentle activities like walking, yoga, or Tai Chi can be helpful.

Journaling

Journaling can be therapeutic for your clients as it allows them to express their thoughts and feelings in a safe space. In addition, journaling helps clarify their goals and what they need to do to achieve them.

These exercises will help your clients reduce stress and promote relaxation. If you practice them yourself, they will also help you. Incorporating these techniques into your coaching practice will provide your clients with important tools to live a fuller, happier, and more satisfactory life full of success.
