Common Mistakes to Avoid While Live Streaming

Live Streaming

Knowing about some of the most common mistakes to live streaming or any new adventure is a great strategy to use to help you start right. You can use the information to not make the same mistakes and have a better chance at success. These common mistakes can ultimately make or break your channel, making it important to continue educating yourself as much as possible within your niche and anything to do with live streaming. Even if you think you are an expert, there is likely something you don’t know or could do better.

Common Live-Streaming Mistakes To Avoid:

An Inconsistent Schedule

Don’t show up late or create a schedule that your audience can’t follow. If you have an inconsistent posting schedule, you won’t be able to get your audience or community together to show up. In addition, an unpredictable schedule shows your audience that you are not into live-streaming or serious enough to make it into a business or full-time income. On the other hand, when you are consistent, you show your viewers that you are committed to them and want to create entertaining content for them.

Poor Quality Stream

Be sure to understand the software and tools required for live streaming before you go live. Don’t let a spotty or slow stream prevent you from being successful. Again, with live streaming, your first impression is one of the most important times to get a viewer to stay around. After about a minute, they won’t want to deal with any technical issues. Test your stream and equipment about thirty minutes before you go live to ensure everything is working. That way, your viewers can watch the content you prepared for them and won’t lose interest.

Zero Pre-Show Content

Live content needs marketing just like any other online content or business. The best way to do this is through pre-filmed content, repurposing your live content, and creating, sharing, and engaging with your audience through social media and your personal website. This way, when you are not live, viewers can still find you and know you are around. However, expecting your audience only to find you when you are “live” is a slow and tedious process and not likely a strategy that leads to success.

Using Boring Titles and Descriptions

Titles and descriptions are your chance to make the right first impression on possible viewers, which is why you should never skip over them and take time to develop ones that are attractive, compelling, and interesting.

Poor Follow Up or Call-To-Action

Ending your live stream should not be the end of your work. You want to follow up with your audience and see how they enjoyed the content. Stick around and continue to chat with them on other social media platforms. Also, never end your stream without some kind of call-to-action for your audience. Ask them to follow, subscribe, comment on their favorite video of yours or sign up for e-mail notifications. Anything to get your audience moving and engaged even after the stream is over.

Keep these mistakes in mind so you don’t destroy your chances of success on the first day you go live. However, just because you have made these mistakes before doesn’t mean you can’t get back on track. Learning how to make money and run your streaming business is about understanding what you’re doing wrong, then getting back on your feet and doing better the next time.
