How to Grow Your Live Stream Audience

Live Streaming

Depending on the platform you use, the more viewers you actively have during your live stream, the easier it can be to get even more of them. This is because you will appear near the top of who is live for the end-user to watch. Beyond that, building an audience is required to generate revenue to run a sustainable business. This doesn’t mean you need a million viewers to be successful.

It depends on your own personal goals for your live stream. Once you know your goals, you can better grow your audience. In fact, it’s best not to fixate on the numbers too much in the beginning. A million viewers do not always equal high revenue or success, and someone with almost zero viewers doesn’t mean they make zero money or a failure either. It is all about planning, creating your content, and maximizing your revenue streams with that content.

The following are a few more tips to help grow your live stream audience:

Follow Your Audience Schedule

While a consistent schedule is key, it won’t matter if your audience can’t make it. Be sure the times and days you pick align with your target audience. If you know they are morning people, for example, then you will want to start your streams earlier in the day. Remember, while streaming is also enjoyable for you, the main point of streaming is to make content for your audience. This means you need to be sure you understand when and where they are the most active to get your content in front of the right people.

Think Interactive Content

Always include and use content in your streams that allow your audience to be involved. This makes a viewer feel involved and part of a community. Thus, making them want to stay around for more. The more engaged your audience is, the more likely they will want to become loyal followers. Most watching live content want to feel like they are a part of the process. Interacting with your audience is even more important as you get more popular. Ask questions, start a pool, play a game with your audience, and take advantage of all the features your platform has to offer to do this.

Create Pre-Show Content and Teasers

Create short clips, infographics, long-form videos, social media, and blog posts to advertise and tease your content. The idea is to create and have content that your audience can find later, even if you are not currently live. Relying on “being live” to grow your audience when brand new is not a great strategy as they don’t know you exist. Instead, you need to get similar content in front of them first to grab their interest and invite them over.

Ask Your Current Viewers

Always ask your current viewers for content and things they would like to see and enjoy during your live streams. Using your audience as part of the content creation process is important as you are getting the right feedback directly from those who matter to you and your success the most. They can provide suggestions far greater than you can think of yourself as they are your target audience.

Reward and Incentivize Your Viewers

Find opportunities to reward or incentivize your viewers to keep tuning into your live stream. This can be in the form of you spending personal time with them, coupon codes or discounts for other products, or access to a private Facebook group for just a few examples.

As you can see, growing your audience is about making sure you understand exactly who they are and making a commitment to them. Once you make your target audience your top priority, they will enjoy and support your content.
