While creating your own product should certainly be a goal for you, you can make plenty of money as an affiliate recommending quality products to your email list. That way you can focus on creating new products just a few times a year, while you focus on finding products that have already been created the rest of the time. The trick is finding quality products and services to promote.
Get to Know the Creator
When you decide to be an affiliate for someone it should come after some thought and consideration. Is the creator an honest, high-quality person? Do you trust them to take care of your audience members? How close are they to being your main competitor? Is it worth it to send them your audience in exchange for affiliate income based on what you know about the creator, the product, and your audience?
Ensure it’s a Fit
Ask yourself if the product is right for your audience. No matter how good of a deal it is, if it’s not right for your audience then it’s not the right offer. Look at your audience avatar and ask yourself how well this product solves one of their main pain points. If it does, and you are sure of the quality then you can promote it with good intentions.
Test the Product
While it’s true that if you know a creator very well and have used a lot of their products that you probably don’t have to test every single product, it’s best to test the product before promoting it. That way you know what the purchasing process feels like, how many upsells they are pushing, and how their email list works in terms of being a member of their list. This will let you know if it’s a list you want your audience on.
Research Your Audience
Poll your audience about the topic in question to find out if they’re interested in the offer before promoting the offer. Send your audience surveys or questionnaires regarding the problem that the product solves. Start teaching them about that problem and then start promoting when you’re sure they’re prepared for the offer.
Give Them Time
When you are promoting a lot of different products on your list you may want to give them a break between products. A good way to think of this is to inform, engage, motivate, and promote. If at least a quarter of your emails are promotional and the rest are engaging, informative, and motivational it will give them the rest they need before you promote again.
But Not Too Much Time
Don’t allow the idea of giving them a breather to make you afraid to promote to your list. As long as the content you provide them is helpful, and the products you promote are on target for the audience, you should not be afraid to promote. If you give them too much time between promotions they may forget why they signed up for your email list and think what you’re sending is spam even when it is not.
Add Value
When you choose affiliate products to promote, choosing items that you can add some sort of value to via content upgrades or add on services or products that you’ve created that will make your offerings even more valuable over and above the affiliate income percentage.
Yet another reason to focus on targeted list building is that you don’t have to create a new paid product to profit from your email list. You can find quality products that work for your niche that other people have created to promote earning a percentage of sales as an affiliate. This can add a substantial amount of income to your bottom-line sometimes surpassing how much you earn from your main product.
